The Head of School – April 16, 2025

April 16, 2025
Flint Hill Community,
A huge thank you to all of the Husky students, families, and supporters who joined us at the George Mason University Center for the Arts last week for our annual celebration of the performing arts at Flint Hill: Arts Jam.
Arts Jam is an anchor event for our Flint Hill community – free of charge, open to everyone, highlighting the incredible talents, hard work, and dedication of our performing arts ensembles in the Upper School. From the opening number of Sweeney Todd (a joint performance of our choirs and symphonic band) through the final, rousing performance of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody – our students and teachers were outstanding. When you see them on campus, please share some gratitude with Joshua McClymont, Laura Moniuszko, Sarah Pramstaller, and Dereck Scott for their work with our performing artists, as well as Catherine Huber and her students for the video interludes between songs.
The performances at Arts Jam beautifully illustrate many aspects I cherish about Flint Hill. First, they highlight the individual, as student soloists take significant risks to showcase their skills before a full audience – no small feat! Second, they demonstrate the power of collaboration, with each ensemble working thoughtfully to create incredible works of beauty. Finally, they reveal the diversity and creativity that arise from blending groups; we see numerous instances of individuals or groups transitioning between performances, forming new combinations of sounds, experiences, and perspectives into something truly exceptional. This embodies Flint Hill: recognizing each child as an individual with unique strengths and opportunities for growth; fostering connections and communities among those with shared experiences and interests to cultivate a sense of belonging; and creatively integrating varied perspectives, strengths, and experiences to encourage creativity, empathy, and a broader understanding of oneself and others.
Arts Jam is just the first part of our year-ending Fine Arts performances and experiences – soon to be followed by our Upper School Visual Arts Show next week, the Spring Musical in early May, and a host of divisional concerts and performances between now and our last day of school. Whether your student is a part of these groups or not, I highly encourage you to join us for these incredible showcases of academic and creative excellence at Flint Hill.
Go Huskies!
