Letter From The Division Director
On Friday, February 9, we will be holding our annual senior skip day. We chose that day because senior classes have historically preferred to have their scheduled skip day centered around Super Bowl weekend. Now that we have a professional day for teachers on Monday, February 12, it creates a four-day weekend for seniors as well.
Please note that this tradition is only for the senior class. We will hold classes for all other grades on that day — students in grades 9, 10, and 11 should be on campus and in class. Each student will have their skip day when they are in the senior class.
Don Paige
Director of the Upper School

Reminders
Kaleidoscope Parent Book Club — Monday, February 5
Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 5, 8:30-9:30 a.m., in the Peterson Middle School Conference Room. We will meet to discuss “All American Boys” by Jason Reynolds and Brendon Kiely. Our book club provides a safe and engaging space for parents to read, discuss, and reflect on thought-provoking narratives that have been deemed too controversial. We've curated a diverse selection of banned books from various genres and eras that have sparked debates and provoked change. RSVP to attend by completing this form. If you have any questions, please contact All-School Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator Miles Henderson.
National Girls and Women in Sports Day Brunch — Wednesday, February 7
National Girls and Women in Sports Day is Wednesday, February 7, 1:15-2:15 p.m., in the Upper School Learning Commons. This year, we will have two speakers and the presentation of the Jody Patrick Spirit Award. Our first speaker will be Alex Long, a former Husky class of 2012. Alex played basketball for Flint Hill, and upon graduating, continued her academic and athletic career at Davidson College. She now works in the Metropolitan Area as a manager of sales operations. Our second speaker is Megan Shifflett Bachman, the Head Volleyball Coach at George Mason University. Shifflett Bachman, a three-time NCAA Champion, will be entering her third season at the helm of the Mason volleyball program. Prior to entering the coaching profession, Shifflett Bachman played at Penn State as a defensive specialist/setter.
We encourage all our female and nonbinary students, both athletes and non-athletes, to join us in this affinity space to celebrate women and girls in sports!

Host Families Needed for Exchange Program with Paris, France
We are excited to welcome back our friends from our Parisian exchange school, Lycée Rocroy. Exchange students will be arriving in Washington, D.C., and will be at Flint Hill from Monday, April 1, to Wednesday, April 10. We are looking for host families to provide lodging, meals, and transportation to school during that time. The students will visit the major D.C. landmarks with their teachers, so families don't have to worry about planning special excursions. They know that our students have sports practice, games, and homework after school, and they are fine with waiting at school until the Flint Hill students are finished with their school day. This is a great opportunity for Flint Hill students to practice their French, but families do not have to speak any French as they are here to practice English. There will be 32 students in the group, ranging in age from 15 to 17. If you are interested in hosting, please complete this survey. Email Annie Broche with any questions.
