Lower School Newsletter – April 30, 2025

April 30, 2025
Letter From the Division Director
We're on the home stretch of the school year, and our students continue to engage in dynamic learning experiences! We hope you’ve been checking out all of the interesting activities, lessons, and field trips documented on SeeSaw and our Flickr page.
As we wrap up, we're taking special care to help our Huskies reflect on all they've accomplished and ensure they feel a sense of closure. Teachers will be guiding students to celebrate their growth, recognize how much they belong and how valued they are, and really understand their own learning journey — what came easily, what was challenging, and what they truly enjoyed.
We want them to appreciate the satisfaction that comes from working hard, to see how much fun learning can be, and to feel confident and empowered as they take ownership of what they've learned. We'll also be encouraging them to think ahead and set some goals for next year.
Of course, we know that the last six weeks of school can bring some stress, so we'll be sure to connect with and affirm each student, supporting their confidence and easing any worries about what's next, like moving to the next grade or making new friends.
Happily,
Jess Henry
Director of the Lower School

Upper School Musical, 'She Loves Me' — May 2-4
Considered by many to be the most charming musical ever written, “She Loves Me” is a warm romantic comedy with an endearing innocence and a touch of old-world elegance. The Mikos Lazlos play “Parfuemerie,” on which it is based, has inspired many adaptations, including the beloved film “You've Got Mail” starring Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. Set in a 1930s European perfumery, we meet shop clerks Amalia and Georg, who, more often than not, don't see eye to eye. After both respond to a "lonely hearts advertisement" in the newspaper, they now live for the love letters that they exchange, but the identity of their admirers remains unknown. Join Amalia and Georg to discover the identity of their true loves ... and all the twists and turns along the way!
Please note: This performance has been rated PG by Music Theatre International. Lower School families are encouraged to use their discretion, as the production includes some mature themes that may not be suitable for younger audiences.
The Upper School cast will perform in three shows in the Olson Theater located in the Hazel Lower School. Reserve your tickets!
- Friday, May 2, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
- Saturday, May 3, 7:00-9:00 p.m.

This year, we’ve added a literal blast: fire a golf ball air cannon at one of the 18 holes, and send that ball soaring like never before! If you’re still on the fence, watch this very serious training video from Head of School Patrick McHonett and his wife, Jessica, as they practice their putting skills using some incredible mini golf courses made by our very own 6th grade students. Only a few spots left, so register today!
Lower School Field Day Details — Thursday, May 29

A picnic-style lunch for the students will include pizza and watermelon, with a gluten-free pizza option available. You are also welcome to send lunch with your child instead of the pizza. If you have specific allergy concerns, please contact Director of Health Services Mary Hart.
