The Head of School – September 4, 2024

September 4, 2024

Flint Hill Community,

Now in “Week Two,” our Flint Hill classes are filled with joy and connection, with ample hope for a great year to follow.

Lower School students are excitedly moving among their specials and class spaces, Middle School students are exploring lunch seating arrangements with friends new and old, and Upper School students are deep in the throes of launching clubs and activities, athletic contests, and college applications (for our seniors). In short, Flint Hill is humming!

Last week, we hosted our Upper School Back-to-School Night, which is soon followed by our Middle School Back-to-School Night (September 5) and Lower School Back-to-School Nights (Grades JK-3, September 12, and Grades 4-6, September 19). These are invaluable opportunities for parents and guardians to connect with one another and our faculty and staff relating to their Huskies’ academic experience.

For some parents/guardians, this may be their first BTSN, and for others, they may be into their second decade of chatting with teachers. For all, this is a chance to learn about our teachers, our academic philosophies, new or exciting opportunities for student engagement, and — quite frankly — to share in the excitement that is a one-of-a-kind Flint Hill education. Engaging at BTSN also allows us as parents/guardians to connect with our children — maybe at a dinner table conversation or on a car ride home from school — about an exciting project or something that may pique their interest over the course of the school year. It can help us to trust and verify — empathizing with our students when they may be experiencing a challenge, and/or reaching out to a teacher when a speed bump may arise. Throughout the year, we assume and expect positive intent — from our students, families, and teachers — as we all have our Huskies’ best interests at the core of all we do. And that begins with coming to these events with an open mind, looking to learn, connect, and engage — just as we hope our Huskies enter each classroom everyday.

Many thanks to our Upper School families for a great evening last week, and I look forward to connecting with our Middle and Lower School families at these events over the coming days and weeks, as well. As always, please never hesitate to reach out to me, a Division Director or teacher with any questions.

Go Huskies!
