The Head of School – October 2, 2024
October 2, 2024
Flint Hill Community,
A huge Husky thanks to everyone who came out to the Homecoming events this past weekend! While we had to shift the annual Bonfire and Spirit Alley activities to Under the Lights week in late-October (more information to come!), our community spirit throughout the week and weekend was stronger than ever.
Following many spirited dress-up days in all three divisions and a rousing Upper School Open Mic, the week capped with an outstanding pep rally for students in 4-12th grades in the Upper School Gym on Friday. As one lifer told me as he walked out of the space, “This was the best pep rally I’ve been a part of at Flint Hill!” From multi-grade relay races, spirited cheers, a lively performance from our Varsity Dance team (accompanied by brave faculty and staff members!), and friendly competition, it was a great event for our students. Many thanks to the Upper School students on the Athletic Advisory Council for organizing the event for our students and faculty.
The weekend was highlighted by fun and invigorating athletic events on campus, including ceremonial recognition of Flint Hill graduates ranging from members of the Class of 1967 through the Class of 2020. I’m grateful that this community is always a home to our alum and their families, even decades after they cross the graduation stage! Our soccer, volleyball, field hockey, and football student-athletes competed hard all weekend, and over 50 excited Lower School Huskies joined the Varsity Dance Team at halftime of the Varsity Football game for a special performance on Saturday. Throughout the weekend, we had students of all ages, families (including tons of Parents’ Association volunteers!), employees, and alumni sharing joy and fellowship with one another, all connected by this shared love of this school. The Husky spirit is strong at Flint Hill!
Finally, things capped with the Upper School Homecoming Dance on Saturday night – with a record turnout, 450 students in attendance! I’m grateful that our students had a fun and safe night, and want to give a huge shout-out to our Upper School faculty and staff chaperones for going above and beyond in so many ways to take care of our Huskies on campus during these long days and weekends.
I am excited and eager to keep the positive energy going throughout this school year, including the rescheduled community connection events during Under the Lights week at the end of the month.
Now and always – Go Huskies!
