The Head of School – November 13, 2024
November 13, 2024
Flint Hill Community,
Thanks to everyone who came out to laugh and support our Upper School Fall Play, The Good Doctor, this weekend, and a big bravo to the cast, crew, and faculty who delivered a great show for our community. Additionally, congratulations to all of our fall athletic seasons’ student-athletes and coaches, both at the Middle and Upper School levels, the majority of which wrapped their seasons last week, as well. Our Cross Country, Varsity Girls’ Tennis, and Varsity Volleyball teams all made it to the VISAA Division 1 State Tournament and represented Flint Hill proudly.
Successes like these, among the many other highlights of our Flint Hill experience, underscore our ongoing commitment to the Portrait of a Flint Hill Student — which calls for our Huskies to be Self-Directed Learners, Problem Solvers, Leaders, Effective Communicators, and Ethical Citizens. From taking the meaningful risk of trying out for a play production or a new sport, to wrestling with the difficult challenges that naturally come during the course of prep for a show or a long athletic season, being in a play or on a sports team offers ample opportunities for leadership, communication, and truly leaning into what it means to be a Flint Hill Husky.
Even better, these experiences and this focus on the portrait underscore that learning is a process, not a product. So, yes, while there are “lead roles,” “starting positions,” and — at least with athletics — a final score, our goals remain centered on the growth of every student. That could be a reluctant first-timer who decided to consider theater as a creative outlet, to another student who, at times, eats, breathes, and sleeps their chosen activity or passion. Growth and challenge are expected for all — regardless of experience or ability — and are guided by expert teachers and coaches every step of the way. It’s the experience — the journey — that matters most, and based on these two examples of many signature Flint Hill experiences, we have much to be proud of for our Huskies.
Thanks, again, to all for an outstanding fall, and I hope we all enjoy transitioning to the winter season.
Now and always — Go Huskies!
