The Head of School – April 2, 2025

April 2, 2025
Flint Hill Community,
I hope that your family had a wonderful spring break. I was so excited to have our students return to campus this week, and have loved hearing the stories of family trips, enjoyment of the outdoors, and time recharging.
A number of our Upper School students, along with some faculty, were traveling for more than just vacation during the break. A group of Innovation students, along with faculty, traveled to Tokyo to study robotics, engineering, and cities of the future. A group of French students traveled with teachers to Paris for cultural and language immersion, while some of our Spanish students did the same in Spain.
Many of our spring varsity sports teams took advantage of the break to engage in team-building and tournaments against national competition, including our Softball team heading to Florida, our Baseball team traveling to South Carolina, our Girls’ Lacrosse team playing in Florida, and our Boys’ Lacrosse team venturing to North Carolina.
Finally, while not overnight and a bit more local, our Upper School Science Olympiad team traveled to Charlottesville for a very full day at the State Tournament. In just its third year of existence, the Flint Hill Science Olympiad team made it to the state tournament for a second year in a row and placed 10th overall in the tournament, including numerous students earning medals in their respective events. And, as a final feather in the cap: our very own science teachers and Science Olympiad team coaches, Deanna Tomanelli and Peter Christy, were named Virginia Science Olympiad Coaches of the Year!
In each of the above instances, our Huskies blazed their trails near and far, extending their learning beyond classrooms to the world around them, while building bonds and memories to last a lifetime. A huge Husky thanks to those who helped make these experiences a reality — including the supportive coaches, faculty, families, mentors, and chaperones who gave of themselves to make these experiences possible.
I look forward to seeing everyone at Arts Jam next week at George Mason!
Go Huskies!
