In December 2024, Head of School Patrick McHonett announced the retirement of our final founding faculty member: Mr. Fred Atwood. In 1990, Flint Hill was reorganized into the non-profit school we know today. Fred is the last teacher on the current faculty who was here at that time. Fred has had an incredible impact on the lives of countless students, alumni, parents, and colleagues.
Established in 2025 in recognition of Mr. Atwood’s retirement as the final founding faculty member of Flint Hill School, the Fred Atwood Endowed Fund for Science celebrates his deep passion for inspiring students of all ages through the wonders of nature and his significant contributions to the school throughout his distinguished career. The Fund is dedicated to advancing the study of science, enriching educational opportunities for future generations, and ensuring that students benefit from the curiosity, passion, and commitment that Mr. Atwood exemplified.
