SEPTEMBER TO JANUARY

From September to January, we encourage you to:

  • Get to know Flint Hill. Attend events and take a tour.
  • Schedule an individual meeting with an admission officer.
  • Fill out the admission application. You may not have all the pieces to complete the application right away, but it’s better to get started early.
  • Schedule any required admission testing and submit results.


OCTOBER

Schedule an interview with your admission officer for a date and time before the admission deadline in January.

The need-based financial aid application process opened on October 1.


NOVEMBER 

Submit teacher recommendation and transcript requests to your student’s current school.


JANUARY

Friday, January 17, 2025, is the deadline for:

  • admission application
  • all supporting documents
  • interview completion
  • financial aid application

Applications finalized after this deadline will be considered on a space-available basis, but are not guaranteed an admission decision by March 7.

FEBRUARY

Admission decision notifications are sent via email Friday, February 28, 2025. 


MARCH

Revisit events are held by division in the first week of March.


APRIL

New Upper School students complete placement surveys.


MAY 

Newly enrolled families are invited to join us for New Parent Night.


JUNE, JULY, AUGUST

Newly enrolled families are invited to attend socials to connect with other Husky families before the start of the year.

 

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT FAQs

Does Flint Hill accept international students?
Yes, we accept international students studying on F-1 visas.

Does the School have an English as a Second Language (ESL) Program?
Flint Hill does not have an English as a Second Language (ESL) program. All students must be fluent in English to apply for admission.

Does Flint Hill help with finding host families or homestays?
Flint Hill does not provide assistance for finding host families or homestays. Each student is required to have a designated legal guardian. Lower and Middle School international students must live with a parent. Upper School international students may live with a guardian.

Will the School write I-20s for international students?
Yes. If a student is admitted and enrolled, the School will write the form I-20 for international students after tuition is paid in full.

What is the application process for international students?
The application process for international students is only slightly different from what is required for domestic applicants. For non-native English-speaking students, we provide a language assessment at no cost to families.

Is a student interview required?
Yes. A student interview is required but can be conducted virtually if the student is not living in or visiting the local area.

Is an in-person visit required?
No, an in-person visit is not required. However, we’d love to meet your student in person and give them a chance to experience our community firsthand.

BUS SERVICE DETAILS

We understand that transportation is one of the top logistical concerns for parents. We’ve made a great effort to provide inclusive bus routes so that students near and far can make it to Flint Hill.

Bus service is available to and from Flint Hill School. Routes include service to the following areas: Annandale, Alexandria, Arlington, Ashburn, Brambleton, Chantilly, Fairfax, Fairfax Station, Falls Church, Great Falls, Herndon, Leesburg, Lorton, McLean, National Harbor, Reston, Sterling, and Vienna.

 

TRANSPORTATION FEES 2024-25

Round Trip Service:
$3,900 per student

One-way Morning or Afternoon/Evening Service:
$1,950 per student

Evening 5:50 p.m. Bus Service (Middle and Upper School only):
$650 per student per athletic season

 

AFTERCARE AND EXTENDED DAY DETAILS 

Flint Hill’s AfterCare and Extended Day programs provide a safe, supervised, and enjoyable environment for Lower and Middle School students. It’s a helpful option for working parents who need flexibility at the end of the workday.

Lower School AfterCare is available daily from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. The afternoon schedule includes snack time, a homework/study period, and recreational time for socializing, playing board games, engaging in arts and crafts activities, and playing outdoors.

Middle School Extended Day is available daily until 6:00 p.m. The afternoon schedule includes a balance between homework/study and socializing with friends.

 

EXTENDED DAY FEES 

Fees for the 2024-25 school year are as follows:

  • One Day Per Week: $825
  • Two Days Per Week: $1,650
  • Three Days Per Week: $2,475
  • Four Days Per Week: $3,300
  • Five Days Per Week: $4,125
  • Drop in as needed: $40/day

HOW TO APPLY

Selecting the right educational partner is top of mind for families, and partnership at Flint Hill starts during the admission process. We are here to help you complete the process and, more importantly, determine whether Flint Hill is the place for your student — because that’s what partners do. 

STEP 1

APPLY ONLINE

First, submit your application! The application form typically takes about 20 minutes to complete. All supporting documents listed below can be submitted at a later time to an active checklist in the application portal or by email to admission@flinthill.org.

*For international candidates: Because the School-Family partnership is a critical part of Flint Hill's approach, we do not issue I-20 documents for students.

STEP 2

SUBMIT SUPPORTING MATERIALS

Supporting materials include:

  • Teacher Recommendation from the applicant’s current teacher.
  • Transcripts/Progress Reports: Required only for entering grades 1-6.
  • Parent/Guardian Questionnaire
  • Testing: 
    • Grades JK-2: A Gesell Developmental Observation is required. Once you submit an application, you may schedule a Gesell through Flint Hill. There is no cost involved.
  • Grades 3-6: We do not require families to seek testing for admission, but we do ask families to submit all testing they have on file.

SCHEDULE AN INTERVIEW

An interview gives you the opportunity to ask questions about our school community and gives us a chance to learn more about your family.

Applicants for grades JK-6 are required to come to campus for a student visit.

  • Testing:
    • Applicants for grades 7-8 may choose (but are not required) to submit the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT).
    • Applicants for whom English is a second language will be provided with an English language writing, speaking and reading assessment at no cost during the admission process. Applicants who have previously taken an English language test may also submit the scores during the admission process, but this is not required.
  • If the student has completed any learning evaluations or has a learning plan with their current or previous schools, please also submit those documents. To be considered for Learning Center support, these must be less than three years old.

SCHEDULE INTERVIEWS

An interview gives you and your student the opportunity to ask questions about our school community and gives us a chance to learn more about your family. The parent/guardian and student interviews are conducted on the same day and take about one hour combined.
